Savory Breakfast Biscuits

Start your morning with a biscuit that’s both wholesome and allergy-friendly. These golden, tender biscuits feature bacon, onion, and peppers for a pop of flavor in every bite. Nutritional yeast gives them a light savory boost, making them an easy, crowd-pleasing breakfast option everyone can enjoy together.

Serves: 8 | Time: 40 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

  • 4 slices bacon, diced

  • 1/4 yellow onion, finely chopped

  • 1/4 red bell pepper, diced

  • 2 cups wheat-free flour blend

  • 1 Tbsp nutritional yeast

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning

  • 3 Tbsp neutral oil (avocado, canola, safflower, etc.)

  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°.

  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone baking mat.

  3. If making milk-free, make buttermilk [1]. Set aside.

  4. Cook the bacon and vegetables.

    1. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat.

    2. Add bacon, onion, and bell pepper and cook for about 5 minutes, or until bacon browned and vegetables softened.

    3. Set aside.

  5. Make the dough.

    1. In a medium bowl, mix together dry ingredients – flour, nutritional yeast, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, baking soda, Italian seasoning, and

    2. In a small bowl, mix together wet ingredients – buttermilk, oil, and water.

    3. Add small bowl wet ingredients to the medium bowl dry ingredients. Mix well.

    4. Add cooked bacon and vegetables. Mix well.

  6. Divide dough into 8 pieces and shape into balls.

  7. On the prepared baking sheet, place dough at least 2 inches apart.

  8. Bake for 15 minutes, or until edges are firm and golden.

  9. Serve and enjoy!

Allergen Alterations

Milk-free: make your own buttermilk by combining ½ cup unsweetened alternative milk and 1 Tsp apple cider vinegar in a glass or small bowl
